Apply a texture to animated text layer
I am looking to have some text with a ‘grunge’ feel. Therefore I would like to apply a .JPG texture to an animated text layer in AE.
If this was photoshop I guess I would just create a text layer and use it as a clipping mask for the texture layer, but I can’t find a similar option in AE.
How should I go about this?

Hi !
I propose to you you 2 options :
A/Preserve transparency
1-Create you text layer and animate it.
2-Place at the top your texture’s jpeg and click the case in the T column to preserve transparency.
B/TrkMat
1-Create you text layer and animate it.
2-Place at the bottom of your text layer your texture’s jpeg and do Alpha Matte in the TrkMat Column.

I’ve made a video tutorial which I hope explains one method of doing what you’re aiming for. There are other methods too. You could also experiment with the transfer mode of the texture layer.
