Apple TV format
I have footage recorded at 1440×1080 in HD from my Sony HDR-SR5 camera.
I’m trying to export the video in Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 to the Apple TV format .m4v
However, when I do this, the video gets distorted. Other video, at different resolutions, that I’ve done have come out fine. I am unable to click on Options when I choose Apple TV so I’m assuming I need to change the settings in my Sequence but I am not sure what I need to set everything to.
I’ve tried changing the Pixes Aspect Ratio, Field Dominance and Compressor without any luck.
Can anyone provide information on what I can do to make this into a high quality m4v file without being distorted? The end result is to use it as a presentation on an iPad.

Use Compressor to make the file, not FCP.

I’m combining 3 videos into one via FCP.
Is there a format that I should use within that before taking it to Compressor to create the m4v file?

Not that I’m aware of. I just send a reference QT from FCP to Compressor and go.

I found in v6 compressor sometimes behaves oddly with that Apple TV preset. If the REF vid from FCP is anamorphic, I used to uncheck the lock next to Aspect Ratio and make sure it’s set to 16:9 1280×720

do your sequence settings match the display size?”Sequence Settings should match the original footage. FCP automatically stretches out the video to full raster during playback. in Compressor you force it to render to Square Pixels which puts all anamorphic video to the correct 16:9 aspect ratio.

I’ve gotten good results exporting a ref file from FCP and brining it into MPEG streamclip. There is an appleTV preset export that often gives me better results than compressor.
