    Hello all,
I’m thinking of upgrading to allow for editing 24 and 30P HDV.
I may be buying the Sony HVR-z7U for production, and integrate that into the projects I post here. Am currently running FCP v. 5.0.4 on G5 1.8 gig single processor. That has been fine for the DVCPRO 50 format, but I expect will be useless for HDV and CF card slow mo, etc… Also would love to cut RED footage for reel..

Some clients require supervised post sessions and I can’t have slow render time and hiccups.

    Main questions:
do I buy the MacPro? Or go with an Imac?
Do I need an additional video card?
How could I monitor the HDV sequence to an external LCD w/ HDMI, component and composite inputs?
Do I keep things HDV all the way through or use the prores?

Any do’s or don’ts would be welcomed.
    THANKS

    JB

    1. Definitely MacPro

    2. consider an aja kona-lhe minimum

    3. see #2 (no hdmi though, but component will work just fine)

    4. I’ve done lots of HDV projects and not had problems (G5 quad with 4gb ram)
(The kona-lhe will allow you to capture it as prores)
