April 27, 2005 at 3:09 pmI thought the top two models had always had 3 PCI-X? One was 133 and the others were 100.
actually, you’re right, I just never noticed that.
Well one good thing about the new machines is that the old ones dropped to great prices. I just picked up an original Dual 2.0 model (8GB RAM version) for $1,899 at Club Mac along with a new 20″ display. So while the upgrade was nice, they are sure good for folks who want great deals on the older models.

April 27, 2005 at 3:17 pmGiving us a gift please!!!! The new dual core processors are a huge leap over the present processors. Why spend 3000.00 on something when they’ll have the dual cores by the end of the year. They’ll probably come with HD Burners for all we know. I cant see owning a dual layer burner when HD is on its way. If you already have a dual 2gig or higher G5 your better off waiting. I’m going to be buying another computer for editing photographs but I’ll get the cheapest powermac and a 20 lcd or perhaps I’ll just get a G5 iMac. That way I wont be blowing money on an outdated architecture that is so close to replacement.

I agree. There is such a small difference in performance from a 2.0 ->2.3 that it would be better to put that money into ram, HDs or displays.

April 27, 2005 at 3:25 pmI think they are feeling pressure from the “Dell Squeeze”. Have you seen the price and features of the Dell 24″? It blows the doors off an Apple 20″ and the 23″ for $999 or less.

Yep, I ordered a 20″ Apple display along with the G5 Dual 2.0 since it dropped to $799. In fact, I got the G5 and the Monitor for less than the price of the 2.7.

April 27, 2005 at 5:05 pmOne interesting thing in all of this is the fact that Tiger Unleashed is still front and center on the Apple home page while the G5’s are in a smaller box below. This is the first time I can remember the release of a new PowerMac being basically pushed to one side of the page. Usually they take the front and center position.
So maybe Apple’s not all that excited about these new machines.

This seems to be a clear “bandaid” until they can deliver a more updated solution.I would expect these to remain until macworld or later.

April 27, 2005 at 7:32 pmI opted for Dell’s UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand. Screen is the exact same size–1680 x 1050 optimal resolution–as the 20-inch Cinema. The black bezel is the same size as the Apple LCD and has six control buttons on the lower right. It was $561.75 after 25% of $749.00 and free shipping.
It has four inputs–DVI/VGA/S-Video/Composite. It also has PIP to monitor S-Video or Composite.
I am typing this post on Input 1 D-Sub VGA attached to my Windows XP Pro machine and I simple select Input 2 DVI-D to jump back to editing FCP on my 15″ PowerBook. A side note–my PowerBook screen sits perfectly under the Dell monitor.
I give it 4.5 out of 5 Mr. B’s.
Cheers,

April 27, 2005 at 8:16 pmThere you go!!! 41% less than the 20-inch Cinema which means you could almost get two for the price of one and have 2 ea. 15pin D-Sub VGA inputs, 2 ea. DVI-D inputs, 2ea. S-video inputs and 2 ea. Composite video inputs.
I got mine a couple of months ago.
