I have had experience with certain formats not playing nice inside FCP. I am now receiving stock masters and one supplier is sending me Apple Photo – JPEG format video files. Do I need to convert these to something friendlier?

You probably should convert to ProRes or Uncompressed. You can create a custom sequence preset for Photo JPEG, but you will get no real time effects with Photo JPEG full frame.

If its just a few shots that you will use, you can probably live with working in a Pro Res timeline and just rendering the clips as needed. If all your footage in the edit is PhotoJPEG, you will probably want to convert.

Its not as problematic as H.264, but its still not ideal.

A lot of stock footage is Photo-jpeg.
We usually just render it in whatever timeline we’re working in.
