I’m about to embark on a DVD job with about 23 hrs of original 1080i50 HDV material.
Having read all the Apple hype about all the Fabulous new ProRes family of codecs I rushed out and bought the new version of FCP. However, after reading the supplied blurb that came with FCP 7 it appears that all the new ProREc editing codecs are designed only for US framerate and formats.

Is this correct and am I right to assume that the best editing codec to use is still the Apple Intermediary codec 1080i50?

Hi Erik, although I’m still on FCP 6 and haven’t really gone into the details of 7, I refuse to believe that ProRes for FCP7 is ONLY for 30fps!

I’ve been happily using ProRes for my 50i HDV projects thus far and I firmly believe you could too.

The marketing blurb is probably a generic spiel targetting the main market 🙂

if it would be like that in PAL-land we would be starting a war:-)
    Probably that was a typo.

Kai is right Erik, you’re misunderstanding something somewhere along the line … ProRes is not frame rate dependent, it works fine with PAL frame sizes and frame rates, just take a look in the Easy Setups and you’ll see that they are all there plain as day.
    Best
