[Jeremy Garchow] “It’s not out yet? Beta? NDA? Legal? I dunno.”

Anyone who knows for sure is probably NDA.
Give what’s in and not in those stories, an educated guess is MacPro is gone (maybe replaced at some point) and since others are saying Red Rocket runs in Thunderbolt Expansion Chassis the only thing I can think of is that either RED or Apple has something else in mind. Which I don’t know but I strongly thing because there’s change afoot.

Thanks Craig. Yes I spotted the credit for X2Pro which has only been available for a few weeks so how have they managed the series audio until recently? Xto7 and OMF?

Funny now that FCPX can export XML and third parties have tidied up the handover that facilities are starting to embrace it. Both facilities output to HDCamSR so they are clearly using other finishing tools (Smoke was mentioned). For a small facility like mine that was using FCS3 as a finishing tool to HDCam, FCPX still doesn’t fit, nor do I expect it to. Meanwhile no local editors are going X.

NAB will answer many questions I hope.

[Mike Kelland] “Just looks different to what I’ve seen before…”

I noticed that too. What’s happening is a big primary storyline as the audio and video is “expanded” (control-s) and then each audio clip is overlapped (j or l cuts) and arranged vertically.

Or it’s all a photoshop ruse. Your call.

    Sorry, Bill. 🙂

What I wish is that when you expand audio, it would give you all the audio tracks without having to breaking apart. It would solve so many #%^*@ problems. Excuse my Q*Bert.

Output to HDCAM doesn’t have to be done from within FCPX.

There’s a good chance the facilities are beta testers for some of the software involved. I KNOW Radical Media was as Evan has said the he/they were FCXP beta site.

Apple is focusing on those that are and I (and others) know there are others doing broadcast work who have moved or are in the process to moving to X.

    Major peeve for me too.

I know output to HDCam can’t be done from X. One of the many reasons I can’t use it although to be fair after nearly a year the list of reasons is getting shorter.

Season 5 of Leverage doesn’t air until mid-July, so its entirely possible that they are not that deep into production.

I think the rest of this year will still be catchup for FCPX. It won’t be until then that most facilities will be able to reconnoiter and see if it has enough to offer. There’s still a lot of workarounds that need to be fixed so they become workflows. Audio has Achilles heals. Secondary Storylines have to work like Primary Storyline (I think) which would make them more “virtual track” like. Professional plugins are still a danger zone until Apple matures things (look at MBL and Sapphire Edge breaking). I think Roles has to mature a bit with more useful features (a visual organizing tool). Key though is Apple is really pursuing things aggressively though. For some, the marketing is another example of that.

[Jeremy Garchow] “I think the Tocket would throttle to whatever the throughput. “

Of course, the Rocket would too. I need to stop iPhoning these posts in. Knowwhatimean?

    1) Do you really need an NLE to output to tape? VTR Exchage (and hopefully AJA Control Room) can do this today with no NLE. I mean if you liked fcpx enough, and I’m not saying you do, tape layoff is child’s play, and I’m sure fcp7 would still be around somewhere in the shop.

    2) FCPX has been in the wild since June 21st. It’s not even a year old. 😉
