    FCP timeline -> Apple Compressor

    Subject: sit-down interview (not much motion)
    Compressor: 90 minute setting

    At several points, for about two seconds each, the image suddenly gets fuzzy, as if the MPEG compression just can’t keep up with the data. Nothing special is happening in the video or audio.

    Discovering this has made me wary of Compressor, especially for routine long-form tasks like outputting DVDs of window dubs. I don’t want to have to sit and check its output, or redo an hour-long tape either.

    What is going on with Compressor?

    Thanks.

    To properly diagnose this, can you post of screengrab of the ‘fuzzy’ image?

    I use Compressor exclusively and I’ve never noticed this before. This sounds like a specific setting or codec issue but not necessarily a Compressor problem. In addition to the Screenshot that Daniel has requested, I have a couple of questions that may help us troubleshoot your issue.

    What is your source material?

    What codec are you using for compression?

    What is your intended output?

    Are you doing any timing adjustments, frame re-sizing, or de-interlacing on your encode?

    Are you using any filters on your encode?

    Please let us know if you figure out what is happening in the meantime.

    Thanks.
