  • Apple Compressor FRAME CONTROLS makes better quality?

I am using compressor to export to you tube. I see that it has the option for FRAME CONTROLS to be either on or off

if I turn these ON, does this create better quality?

for example, my video is at 24 frames per second. Pulldown has been removed.

what does RESIZE FILTER : BEST (statistical prediction) do?

What about the OUTPUT FIELDS? My video is progressive at 24p, should I put SAME AS SOURCE or should I choose progressive?

De-interlaced, should this be at BEST MOTION COMPENSATED?

    what does ADAPTIVE DETAILS do?

and the RETIMING CONTROLS, ?? should it be FAST (nearest FRAME) or BEST MOTION compensated?

I am looking for better quality and was wondering if these options will make it better?

also the last option says SET DURATION TO 100.00% of source or SO SOURCE FRAMES PLAY AT 23.98

since its already 24 does that need to be checked?

All of this is covered in the Compressor User Manuall (Help Menu) It would be silly to copy and paste all the answers.

Short Answer: The Frame Controls greatly affect quality and encoding time. You need to learn how to use them to get good results.

since my original footage is 1080p and I want to put it on youtube at 720p, what settings on frame controls will help me achieve better quality?

Just set the resize to “Better” or “Best”.

Leave the Deinterlace alone (it has no effect on Progressive footage).

Are you keeping the same frame rate?

Hi there, perhaps stepping back a bit: for youtube, we use the preset in compressor and get perfect results everytime (v7). Never messed with frame controls for youtube…why?

You are right. After re-reading all his posts…he is downscaling from 1080p to 720p and not changing the frame rate. This should work beautifully with the default settings.

If he’s not happy with the results, he should try again, engaging the Frame Controls.

Crap, I’ve just ruined my “100% consistently wrong” post count. Cheers!

can you post you settings, maybe those who are poor college students like myself can benefit from the more advanced V7 settings…
