I received Avid certification back in ’96 and I don’t think I’ve thought about it since…although I began using Media 100 soon after, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Jerry is correct however, it will open up some new ways of working and maybe even some capabilities that you didn’t have before.

    Let know what you decide.

    thanks y’all

i’ve been editing full time for twelve or thirteen years, first on Avid, then FCP since version 1.5.
Most of my work is in television documentaries with some advertising and corporate video from time to time.
One of my major clients recently retired and I’m wondering if some official “Apple cred” would help me keep my edit suite busy with paying customers.
I do agree that my reel is my greatest asset, but I’m wondering if a line on my resume indicating A.C.P. would neatly summarize my software and hardware skills.

And yes. this process would be another way to learn more about the tools of the trade and how to use them.

    Thanks for your advice,

Yeah I’m certified and agree with Tim. You will pick up the odd thing or two in the course. However don’t expect it to be a license to print money. It hasn’t made one iota of difference to me. (not that I was expecting it to) Nothing like when I became Avid certified. Now that was a big benefit. I think because getting to Avids and Avid instructors was not easy. Hence not cheap. Today anyone can get their hands on a copy of FCP and run it on just about any decent Mac. The program is so intuitive you can have a fairly good grasp of it in a day or two.

Usually the training I do now-a-days is getting those self taught guys and gals to unlearn all their bad habits and start doing things properly. And to broadcast standards. 😉

The original post on this is almost a year old, and hijacking anthers thread is never a nice thing to do. It would have been much better if you had started a new post.

The software is just a tool, it is what you do with that tool that makes the difference. There are many other aspects of what makes a good editor besides his knowledge of the software.
