Applaying effects to a source clip

Yes. Here’s how:

Lay your source clip(s) into a timeline – apply your effect(s). Open your effect editor and Alt+Drag (or CMD+Drag) the effect icon to your bin. It will save the effect “with source”. Now you can load that effect into your source monitor and it will act as the source clip with the effect applied. If you have several effects on a clip, just Alt+Drag the topmost effect to your bin and it will save the stack of effects “with source”. Cut away.

Another way is to apply the effect to an empty track above your edits. For example, if you need to apply a film effect to all the video on V1 you would apply the effect to V2 (which should be an empty track) and it will effect everything on V1.

You cannot apply an effect to a source clip. You can apply an effect to the source clip as a sequence then use sequence as source (drag to source monitor). You cannot apply an effect to an entire single V channel – only to a top tack that would affect all layers beneath it.

Thanks for the quick answer,
It worked with some effects however, it did not worked with the motion effect (media composer 4) wich is the main reason i am looking for how to do it.
is it possible doing so with the motion effect ?

I am using the motion effect to easly transoftm interlaced video to progressiv before exporting to DVD (im closoing the DVD with DVD architec) maybe there is a better way doing so ?

Use MichaelP’s method if you’re using motion effect. Drop your clips into a timeline, apply the effect, then load that sequence into your source monitor.

Or, finish your edit, make a video mixdown of everything, then apply a motion effect to mixdown to deinterlace that. Or use a compression program that will handle the deinterlacing for you.

Why are you trying to make it progressive, though? Of you’re burning it to DVD it will likely be played back on a TV, right? If so, you want the interlacing so it looks right (and deinterlacing can add artifacts to the footage).

Thanks, Im deinterlacing because it gets smear lines on movement after DVDing, and the avid deinterlace quite good.
