Guys, I am dealing with a big pain in the ass. I am copying text for subtitles to Sony Vegas 10c and I realized the apostrophes don’t appear in preview although they are visible in Sony Text Media window. Now I have to go through all the text and check the apostrophes which makes me feel really furious.

Any advice on why Sony Vegas doesn’t see apostrophes in pasted text?

I have no problem with apostrophes in 10.0d
Could you please describe how I can recreate this problem?
(What is the font, text etc.)

    Aleksey,

copy some text containing apostrophes from common Notepad and paste it to Sony Text plugin. Apostrophes will appear there but in the Vegas preview Window they won’t.

They also appear normally in Vegas Pro 9

I ran into the same thing. The workaround is to double-up on the apostrophes.

Single apostrophes works for me in the same way, so it doesn’t seem to be a Vegasproblem:

I realize I’m late to the discussion but I noticed your subject line and it sounded very familiar.

First, we are talking about “quotation” marks aren’t we?

If so, I had a similar problem that involved cutting and pasting closed captions text from a word document with both quotation marks and apostrophes. The issue was caused by something called smart quotes.

    to read more… https://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/change-curly-quotes-to-straight-quotes-and-vice-versa-HA010173242.aspx

I’m pretty sure you have text that was created by some microsoft product, and the ascii code for certain punctuation marks is different then what some text editors are expecting, resulting in missing quotation marks and apostrophes. Drove me crazy.

Follow the instructions for replacing smart quotes with straight quotes using your original document. This will only fix the original document, you’ll still have to replace the text in Sony Vegas.

    Hope this helps.

That’s the thing! But it means I still have to replace the text manually with normal apostrophes, doesn’t it?

Well maybe. You can “fix” the document by following the instructions on the webpage I linked to. But if you have already entered the text into Vegas titler, then it just might be easier to fix each title manually.

That being the case, my advice was for future projects. Fix the document before you copy and past into Vegas titler.

I’ve pasted it all already, but this is definitely a good advice for the future. Thanks
