In case there was any question about the status of Aperture upon the launch of Photos, Apple is sending out official e-mail to Aperture owners confirming its End of Life. The pertinent info from that notice:

“When Photos for OS X launches this spring, Aperture will no longer be available for purchase
from the Mac App Store. You can continue to use Aperture on OS X Yosemite, but you will not
be able to buy additional copies of the app.”

Yes, I am sad that there will be no more updates.

I am going to keep using Aperture until what I hope will be a company like pixelmator will use Photos archive and metadata functions integrated into their program. Essentially a more robust skin over Photos.

Well, since it’s their job to know what I want before I want it I guess I’ll just have to trust their judgement.
