anyway to open 7 project in 6?
will an XML export from 7 open up in 6, and will it have everything we would need?

It should. at least thats the promise.
Try a test.
The gotchas are in the media. FCS 7 supports a couple of formats that 6 doesn’t (like ProRes 4444), so you may have to transcode some stuff before you make the XML.

anything i should know for the xml export? there are a few different types listed there

You need to go back at least 1 version of XML for FCP 6 to be able to read it.
