  • Anyone with a Sony DSR-1500 Deck please help……signal loss intermitent

Posted by Paul Harb on September 29, 2005 at 10:15 am

Im trying to run off the timeline and record to a Sony DSR-1500 deck to DVCAM. After spending 5 hours trying to figure out why I couldnt use the firewire to control my deck, then finding out here on the Cow that you couldnt control through firewire with this deck(what is the point of the firewire if this is the case??? WHY in the hell would Sony disable this???) So now the issue is that even when we play it straight off the timeline, it loses its signal from FCP for a half a sec, so we get these drop outs, on the tape where the audio drops out….it is driving us crazy and we cannot output to tape with this $5000 deck…..anyone with any insight into this deck please if you could help out it is greatly appreciated…

    Thks…Paul

It’s my understanding that it’s not disabled, you just need to set this in the menu. Default for the deck is RS-422, but I know someone on this forum recently gave the menu location to change this to Firewire.

I just did a “Search Posts” and found a lot of discussion of this.

Set to “All Active Posts” and INCLUDE the Archives.

Use the exact term: Sony DSR1500
    (Don’t use the “dash”)

also, is this the older model 1500? i have one thats 3 years old, and we found we had to put it on another firewire bus after we had the intermittant black problem. Its well documented, but sony never admitted it has a problem. I’m also guessing you might have an older machine?

I’ve been using a DSP1500-AP (PAL version) for about 18 months – no problems.

I can control it via firewire or 9pin. Firewire control is MUCH slower than 9pin. You have to go into the deck’s menu to choose between 9pin and firewire control – it’s displayed on the front panel as “9p” or “ilink”.

    Hope it helps.
