August 24, 2008 at 8:37 pmThanks Ben, Are you generally happy with the quality of the monitors and do you colour grade on them?

Yes – I have the HD-SDI version of the JVC, and generally I’m very happy with it. It’s very neutral colour-wise, and I think the ‘look’ of a monitor is a personal taste thing, so I don’t want to say it’s the best available (although for the money…)
I colour grade on mine all the time – for broadcast and corporate. Take care to set both it and your computer monitor up properly and it’s great. Feed it a 1080p source and it’s amazing.

August 24, 2008 at 9:59 pmTrue – I use mine with a friend’s RED camera on-set, and the 720p 1:1 pixel display option is very useful. I also make a lot of use of the safe area markers for broadcast work, and the embedded audio and timecode display.
Please – try before you buy. Others here will tell you they dislike the look of the JVC’s and prefer the Panny’s or (even) Sony. I believe Sony now has a 1080p 24″ monitor around the same price point, so have a look at that as well.
If you want 1080p monitoring, LCD is your only option, but my guess is you’ll be suprised by the quality…

August 26, 2008 at 6:16 amSorry to be the one naysayer – and it’s likely that my case is an exception, but I’ve owned the monitor for a few months and just this week I’m noticing a very strange, very distracting “flicker” in the monitor that I’m certain is some form of failure in the monitor. It comes and goes, but when it’s around it manifests as this predictable, every-few-seconds “strobe” through the image, almost as if it is getting some form of electrical interference, though the strobe is rhythmic when it is happening.
A bummer. I’m not sure about the warranty, but I’m assuming it is just a malfunction.
Otherwise, I was happy! Also had the SDI option, and monitoring thru my Aja Card produced very nice results. SD upsampling nice as well. JVC build quality = there is the debate.
