  • Anyone using LCD &Cinema Display Mode for HDV?

Upgrading some editing things now that I have a JVC HD-110. Been leaning towards the Matrox MXO or waiting for the AJA IOHD (We have an AJA IO that we like a lot). The next few HDV projects will be delivered as files and SD DVD, so, anyone just using a 1280×720 min. LCD with FCP in Cinema Display mode? Obviously CC is an issue. I like that the MXO has good calibration and blue gun, maybe the IOHD will too, but for now what are the downfalls of using cinema display with an LCD screen? Ingest is by FW.
    Thanks,
    Ed

Your computer monitor in Cinema Display mode is showing you a proxie image. Not full quality…so the colors won’t get right, the image will be a little degraded, your text won’t look smooth. Lots of stuff. It is fine for a reference monitor, too see your stuff big. But if you want to see true colors and use that for color correction, the MXO is the way to go. Especially since you captured by firewire, as the MXO is output only.

Depends on your needs. If you need something NOW…get the MXO. And if you capture via firewire only, get the MXO. If you can wait, and want to capture as ProRes…then get the I/O HD. Mind you it is a tad more expensive (but worth it)…but also note that any signal that you route from the I/O HD to an LCD display (like the Apple Cinema Display) may not get you true broadcast colors. It isn’t out yet so I cannot say for sure. I know the MXO does…but don’t know about the I/O HD.
