I’m thinking about getting a laptop from Alienware. I know those are very good computers and I want to use it for my AE projects and other video editing tasks. Just wondering if anyone else exclusively uses a laptop for AE projects and other job related work.

I’ve used AE extensively on my Mac 1.25 ghz Powerbook. I’ve had very good luck with it, but render times are a lot longer if you get into 3D and lights and lots of plug ins. Still, I’ve done a lot with it and been happy. My laptop is a couple of years old now and I suspect the one you are eyeing will be a lot faster, so my guess is that you’ll be happy too.

    I’m using a 19 month old Alienware m-51. 3.2 Ghz P4 w/HT, gig of Ram, 128mb nVidia card, 7200RPM 60 Gig HD. Works like a workstation.

I’m sure the new Alienware’s are even better. But this old crusty 19 month old dinosaur runs AE 6.5 Pro like a champ! So I’d imagine the new stuff out of Alienware will make AE scream.

I agree with Arthur. I’m running AE 6.5 pro on a Powerbook with no problems to speak of.

I use my Powerbook G4 (1.67Ghz – 2GB RAM) primaraly for AE. Unless you are into gaming, I’d save yourself loads of trouble, and get a nice Powerbook.

For comfortable work on AE I cannot compromise and need to have 2 monitors (second one for the timeline), but sometimes, when in need I do stuff on a 1.7GHz Pentium-M, and it works just fine.

These ones were made on a laptop: https://www.imagonewmedia.com/portfolio-desa.html

I’ve non-branded P4 2.8 GHz with 1Gb of Ram and run AE brilliantly. It’s also a widescreen which gets around the two monitors problem easily.

The big benefit to me is i work on the machine at my desk and can take it home to render. I also use the laptop for presentations and have done ‘almost live’ greenscreen on it.
