Anyone running CC on a Mac that can verify a caption issue for me?
We’ve been running Premiere CC, on a Mac, and using it to embed captions into hundreds of Quicktime wrapped XDCAM HD 422 50 files. Then, another department picks up the files and re-formats them for different deliverables (also using Premiere) – all while maintaining the captions. It’s been a terrific workflow. HOWEVER, this weeks batch of shows has stopped working. I’ve tested it on 5 different systems and they all do the same thing:
Import a Quicktime XDCAM HD 422 50 file with embedded captions and Premiere CC 7.0.1 does not recognize that captions are present. I’ve tested the file in Quicktime, Vantage, and our Baton File Analyzer – and the captions are definitely there – but Premiere can’t see them any more.
If I import a Quicktime ProRes file with embedded captions – it works fine. All the systems are acting like the XDCAM functionality has suddenly broken.
All of our systems have been upgraded to 7.0.1 – and I know there were some XDCAM enhancements with that release that improved playback. I don’t recall when we did that update – but I wonder if it’s broken the captioning function in Premiere CC. Is anyone out there still running 7.0 (without the update) that is in a position to test it for me? Can you open an XDCAM file with embedded captions – created originally in Premiere CC? Or – any suggestions for downgrading my install to 7.0 so that I can test out my theory on one of our systems?
Thank you.
