Anyone know how to create a good dot-matrix effect on stock footage?
Saw the monsters dark continent trailer and loved what they did for the news footage type stuff. Look at the 15second mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cadxeA__v4

One very fast way to get that kind of sparse pixelated look is to use the CC Ball Action effect with the Grid Spacing and Ball Size set much lower than the defaults.

the grid effect will also work… small grid size, small border, enable invert and stencil alpha options
grid renders faster than ball action, which may make a difference if you are doing a lot of these or combining with other effects.
