    Hi all,
I know that the software media players I’m using (MPC-HC and VLC) are converting sRGB levels to computer RGB for video playback, but I want to view videos in their original levels. It seems that the only way to see correct levels is to import and view them in Vegas, or play them in QuickTime, I don’t use QuickTime too often though.
Does anyone have any idea what media player is out there that can retains original levels yet has an appearance resembling MPCHC? I’ve heard VLC could output original levels but I’ll need some clarification on that.

    Thanks in advance,
    RickAVC

VLC is fully self contained and if there is not a decoder option for what you ask you are SOL.

MPC-HC however typically uses external decoders (DirectShow). The exact setup depends on how you got the installation. I’ll speak to what I have. A K-Lite Standard install. This uses the LAV decoder and in the LAV decoder setup options you can select display at studio or computer levels. It defaults to computer since that is what a PC monitor normally expects, otherwise the video (if studio swing) will look flat.

So it is not really a media player option, but a decoder option you typically want to adjust. Of course, the decoder may not give you that option.

Thanks Norman for reminding me about LAV,
I’ve found the setting for choosing level output in MPCHC.

Thanks Steve for your suggestion, I’ll have a look at that. (Apologies for mispelling name previously)
