I’m probably going to purchase the Vegas 7 upgrade soon, since they’re doing this new $150 upgrade promotion. It offers to give you Cinescore for another $150 (with two free theme packs). I think Cinescore sounds like a good idea, but I just haven’t had the time to try the trial. So I’m wondering if anyone here uses it and what you think of it? Royalty free original music would be great for me, but is it really that good? Like do I need to be fairly good at music composition already? And how good is the results? It it just okay, or does it really produce good-to-great music? Also, what’s the learning curve like?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I’ve been using Cinescore for a few months and really like it. Like any program, you can just use the simple techniques or delve deeper and really take control.

I’ve been using Cinescore for a while, and I really enjoy it. As Gary says, you can use the simple controls, or you can delve deeper. You do not need any knowledge of music composition. It works very well. Some of the music is a little bitt too “MIDI” like, computer generated in other words, but most of it is great.

With Vegas 7, Cinescore works as a plug-in, which increases its usefulness tremendously. Since Cinescore creates songs etc, matching changes in music exactly to changes in video is hard. You edit, score, and then fine-tune the edit to make it work. That process is now a lot easier since you can use Cinescore as a plugin.

I dunno, I still prefer my Sonic Fire Pro 3. Music sounds better and in Cinescore there’s definate lack of the styles of music I use.

Maybe before purchasing the Sony product, you may want to check out the Sonic Fire Pro, now version 4 with mood mapping.

    Hi:
I use Sonic Fire, a soundtrack program which is very similar to Cinescore. When I compared the two, I liked the Sonic Fire music better, but this is obviously a matter of taste.

I also use Band in a Box and Sony Acid. I create music in BIAB (or Sonic Fire) and then use Acid to enhance it (or sometimes destroy it).

I think you’d be happy with either of the two soundtrack programs.

    Best wishes.

Check out the most recent “Event DV” magazine – September Issue. Good in-depth comparison between Cinescore and Sonic Fire Pro.
