I am considering purchasing the Panasonic AJ-SD255P VTR, would this allow me to capture DVCPRO via firewire with FCP ? it has the firewire interface on the deck. Will I be able to print to tape or master via firewire with this deck ? if I edited in HD 720 or 1080 would I be able to master (print to tape) output back to tape in HD ?? thanks for all of your help in advance, I am shooting with the Panasonic HPX170 on P2

This deck is DVCPro only. It can not record or playback DVCPro 50 or DVCPro HD.

Your least expensive option to record back to DVCPro HD on P2 cards is the HPG-20.

Thanks, I was looking for the deck to master my finished project to via firewire that was a better option then mini-dv. What is the difference in DVCPRO and DVCPRO 50 and DVCPRO HD ? I was a part of the Chicago FCP users group years ago when they met and the tribune building and then at the adler planetarium, I had to stop going because of my work schedule, but now that has changed, I will be coming back out, last time I checked you guys were meeting in Arlington Heights and sometimes in Lombard.

DVCPro (DV25) has a 4:1:1 color sample and a data rate of 25mbs. Very similar to MiniDV and DVCAM.

    DVCPro 50 is 4:2:2 and 50mbs

    DVCPro (100) is 4:2:2 and 100mbs

Your best option to master your project is to create a Self-contained movie and put that on a hard drive.

Chifcpug still doesn’t have a permanent home. This months meeting is at DDB in the AON building downtown.
