  • Anyone have an Access Logging Database

Posted by Michael Lynch on December 8, 2005 at 5:54 pm

I am wondering if anyone has put together a very simple database to physically log tapes. I’m not talking about capturing, but just viewing the tapes and making log notes in a database so they can be retrieved/sorted in various ways – i.e. by type (interview, b-roll, main), subject, time code, tape #, etc. I am sure it would be simple to create in Access (if anything in Access can be considered simple), but if someone already has it done, I can use my time on other projects.

    Thanks!

    Uh…

Setup you browser bin with the logging columns arranged the way you like them and export to a tab/comma/whatever delimited file and import into Excel or Access. Excel would probably be easier and then there is Filemaker Pro.

    You could always Google.com:

“Final Cut” OR FCP logging database import export “Microsoft Access”

“Final Cut” OR FCP logging database import export Excel

“Final Cut” OR FCP logging database import export “Filemaker Pro”

    Don’t worry Mr. B. I have a cunning plan…

    Also try http://www.pilotware.com

THis is a dedicated media logging program based on Filemaker pro. Very versatile. Probably more expensive than you’d like, but very capable.

On the Tour de France we had a filemaker pro template for logging and a piece of software that grabbed timecode off the 3.5mm jack audio input.

I have been using TepX by Imagine Products ( http://www.imagineproducts.com ) for years now. It will do just what you’re asking, plus it can be commanded and controlled vias RS422 cable which picks up your timecode automatically. It’s a very worthwhile investment. Just my experience.
    Hope this helps,
