Anyone else get this After Effects render glitch?
Hi,
I’m running After Effects CS5 on i7 PCs with a variety of drives and connections and have been getting these random noisy glitch frames in various AE renders since back in CS4.See attached for a typical example.
They are usually single frames and I may get 1 every 45 secs or so. I’ve almost learnt to live with them by just deleting the offending frames. I had assumed the drives were getting fragmented, but now have defragged all drives and also notcied the glitches on new drives. I just wondered if anyone else gets this and what I can do to get this gremlin out of my life?!

This sounds like a RAM/memory issue rather than a drive related issue. The fact that the render errors are at regular intervals should provide such a clue. AE’s render engine is pretty bug-free if you do not include the ‘out of memory’ feature from hell issues that occasioanlly crop up.
Perform a COW Search on how to purge AE’s memory during a render. Additionally, such errors are related to the use of a certain plugin(s). See if you can nail down the sucker!

I don’t see your sample but I’ll say this: I was getting lots of corrupted frames and by doing two things I think (knock on wood) that I resolved the problems
1. In preferences I went down to only using 4 of my 16 cpus/threads and giving everything lots of RAM
2. I went from a storage situation where my drives were quite full to a new RAID with ample room and faster I/O.
Life is full of funny particles.

same problem to me with A.E cs5. The most weird is that this happens only on my laptop pc, but not on my desktop both with win7 64bit and only from export to AVIs – DVpal.

Interesting, as this also only happens for me on PAL AVI renders – both DV and uncompressed though. -
If you are rendering with OpenGL, turn it off and leave it off.
If you’re using multiprocessing, try turning it off.
Are you using any effects which feature GPU processing?

i think i found the problem. Try to export the comp, not on an external hard disk as i did, but an internal or other drive with different connection. Its working to me!!!

I also found that the issue was external HDD’s only.
I have two 4TB USB3 HDD that I store everything on, and this is really frustrating that i have to render then move the files each time. -
Thanks! I was having the same problem. Rendered to my internal hard drive, problem went away.
