[derek woods] “you need the serial number for your fcp”

Yeah, that’s correct. Enter your serial number and then it takes you to the 5.0.4 download page.

I didn’t have to do any of that. I just ran Software Update and it comes up with the 5.1.1 update. So far, so good!

The update worked for me on Apple’s site.
Try this link. Change the Apple ID and enter your serial number.

FYI, I updated my Powerbook to 5.1.1 yesterday and all is well. ALL plug-ins work and I have a lot. Boris Red, BCC, DFT, etc.

That’s correct, but if you read my original post, this particular machine is not on the internet.

And actually, we’re seeing some real bad timecode issues on our end with FCP 5.1.1 with the one machine that is running it. That’s why I’m trying to see if the problem follows the 5.1.1 to the other machine.

    Thanks Steve,

I tried the link, but it still brings me to the 5.0.4 page. I’ll try again later.

Walter, Can you go to another machine that doesn’t have the update applied to it and has internet access? If so, you can download the update and save it under the tab Update – Download Only or Install and Keep Package.

I do this all of the time because I have only one machine on the net that is my backup machine but my main system is not connected. That way I can apply these updates after I know they work fine without messing up my main system.

    Walter,

The machine you are downloading to needs to be updated to 5.1 (as its a paid upgrade). Is this the case.
5.1.1 does more than just patch the app, it completely replaces 5.1, so they restrict access to only people who have 5.1 installed.
If it detects 5.0x installed, then it directs you to 5.04.

Pardon me, if I have misread the situation.

    Walter,

I do my downloads on a PC that I use only for internet and nothing else; like you, I don’t use my Mac for internet.

I went to http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/download/, where you sign in with your ID and password, then it takes you to a page where you enter your serial number. That links you to the 5.1.1 download. I then save the download, copy it to a CD, and update my mac.

For giggles, I just tried it again, and got the message: “It appears you have already downloaded the update”. So, they are only allowing you to do it once. Sure glad I saved the update for future rebuilds.

    Hope this helps,

Hey Walter. What you need to do is go into your harddrive>library>receipts and delete the 5.1.1 update package. Then do what Tom said own run software updater and 5.1.1 should pop up. Choose the download only option and transfer that package to your machine with no internet.

    Make sense?

    Jeremy
