I’ve got a friend out in the field who only has FCP 4.5 and wishes to view the P2 720 24pN media. As far as we know FCP 5.1.1 is the only way. Is there something we don’t know? is there any small viewer app out there that is emailable? Another person at the location has a PC with Premiere – is that able to view. I’m looking into this issue for them and any advice is welcome.

    Thanks,
    Todd

Go to the download page and download the P2 viewer. I think it’s PC only.

    P2 Log by imagineproducts.com…but that isn’t e-mailable I don’t think.

The PC card reader should work for you. Use the above link, or the install CD that came with the camera.

I’ve not checked into this yet myself, but they are saying that the P2 Viewer only views from the P2 card itself. They want to check material that has been archived to Hard Drive aleady.

The archived MXF files or imported Quicktime files?

MXF…no way without P2 Log….or the P2 viewing software that came with the camera. They don’t need to be on the P2 card for that to work. And once the footage has been imported it is DVCPRO HD and the machine with FCP 4.5 should be able to see it.

“The archived MXF files or imported Quicktime files?”

-The files copied directly from the P2 Card.

“MXF…no way without P2 Log….or the P2 viewing software that came with the camera. They don’t need to be on the P2 card for that to work. ”

Ok -good to know – so they must be missing somthing. So you are saying that P2 Viewer on a PC can read the files form an HD? I’ll do my homework on this myself but they are in a pinch right now so i appreciate the help.

    Thanks,
    Todd

[todd sali] “So you are saying that P2 Viewer on a PC can read the files form an HD?”

Yes. Use the “setting virtual p2 cards” menu option to navigate to where the “contents” directory is stored on your hard disk, and P2 Viewer will let you view & play the clips from that “virtual card”.
