Any way to save the project?

If you know the folder location where your project was saved, check it for a file with the extension .veg.bak as this is the backup project file.
If it’s not there, do a search of your hard drive for it.
Once you find it, rename it to .veg by dropping the .bak and try to open it.
If it does work, re-save it immediately with a new name.
A good habit to get into is saving to a specific folder that’s a part of your project folder (you do have one of those set up, right?) on a regular basis with incremental version numbers.
For example, myproject-1.veg, myproject-2.veg, myproject-3.veg, etc.

For automatic project backups you can use AutoSave from Excalibur or Project Backups from Vegasaur

Hi Kaya,

Mike’s right about saving a folder with a name and number for your project. What I make a habit in doing is creating a folder with a date and everyday I work on that project I give it a new date so if anything happens I can go back to that date. Always save, save and save everytime you add or make changes to your project because you don’t know when your computer will go down. It only takes a second.Plus, I always save to an external hard drive, for me that’s a must.

So I have Sony Vegas 9 pro and was in the middle of working on a project when my computer shut down. Then I restarted my computer, the auto-save pop-up came on and I went to re-load the project but my computer shut down again

I would be more concerned with the computer unexpectedly shutting down! It sounds like a CPU cooling policy issue. If you are running on a laptop and are using Windows 7, the default cooling policy is ‘passive’. I had this issue with my Acer laptop that kept on shutting down during renders. Once I changed it to Active is was fine, but it does mean the laptop consumes more battery power. But, it renders!

If this is the case, “System cooling policy” is a power setting item for Processor under the Power options of Windows 7 -> change plan setting -> advanced power setting -> Processor power management.
