  • Any way to “re-wrap” MP4 files?

This is a really odd question but I’m working with Premiere mostly here although I have the whole CC suite.

Basically I’m trying to copy a video file to VHS then capture the VHS through Premiere to get an authentic tape look. I’ve only been able to do this by burning the file to a DVD, then VHS but it’s interlaced along the way and I don’t like the look of that.

I can directly capture to VHS from my Canon XA20’s media mode, playing the raw AVCHD/MP4 files from Media mode. Problem is, I’m unable to get an exported video file to play back through the camcorder. Once the files are “unwrapped” the camera won’t play them and I’ve been unable to find a codec that would essentially “re-wrap” the file so I can place it on the memory card and play it through Media mode.

If anyone has any suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Can’t you play out a timeline into the camcorder, then use the analog output to the VHS machine in real-time?

Keep in mind that any analog tape standard definition format is interlaced…no exceptions.
