Any Way to Have Render Settings Stored With Project
Posted by Ken Matson on September 10, 2013 at 9:08 pmCurrently, Vegas seems to go to the last render settings I used in ANY project when I go to render, which I find frustrating. Is there a way to tell it to remember the settings …. file type, location, everything in fact … for the specific project rather than going to what I used for some other project? I’m not even sure how the current way is valuable at all.
Thanks!

Not for the parameters you are wanting.

September 10, 2013 at 11:18 pmThere is a way… sort of. Vegas extensions allow for this kind of thing and the extension I wrote for myself does this. Affecting the render template dialog itself is not possible but the dialog itself becomes irrelevant when you create your own buttons for doing things.
The Vegas project file can keep just about anything you want… so what is it people want? Hopefully by the end of the year I will have time free to finish up the documentation and release my extension. I will add features if there is something everyone sees a need for.

September 11, 2013 at 6:13 amI can use VASST’s FASST Apps “Render Assistant” for this type of further aggregation of render template functionality – meaning I can keep Project Format Template Sets and all the parameters you’re asking for in one place.
As it states here:
“Whether you need to render one selection on your timeline into four different video formats, or you want to render each region in your current project separately, RenderAssistant will do the work for you so you can walk away while the renders complete. RenderAssistant includes batch rendering capabilities for timeline selections, regions, and even each marker. Create, edit, and save your commonly used output formats. Select the render formats you want from the customizable drop down list, choose a save-to location, and click Start Render. It’s that easy!”
So, the initial answer, for installing Vegas right outta the box, is still NO. But, the use of 3rd Party Plugs – here an easily installable extension – the answer is most definitely YES.
If you aren’t using these “other” options then you are missing out on a whole smorgasbord of ease, utilities, creative options that have been in development and successfully delivered over the past almost 10 years in creation.

September 11, 2013 at 7:41 amWhile I agree that Vasst, Vegasaur, and Excalibur are wonderful products they do not make use of the Vegas project file to store data which is partly what Ken was asking about. My extension loads all of the specific render data when a project loads without having to think about it (that is why I wrote it instead of using the commercially less functional options) and it travels inside the Vegas file. It also does: new event default settings, keeps event “states” (all attributes including video motion, effects, envelopes, even position if you wish) for easy recall , has a paste attributes of your choosing button, an interface that is sizeable and highly configurable so it all fits in whatever dockable window I make, has a bank of copy memory buttons that save “copy” clicks as you go without having to deal with preset saving. That is on top of all the basic editing functions like split joining, closing gaps, etc.
I have noticed people like Gilles Gagnon use Excel files to keep notes but Vegas can keep notes inside the .veg file. My extension’s project overview includes these notes and can be output as an html file (making it readable by anyone with a browser.) The full capabilities of Vegas extensions have barely been scratched.

September 11, 2013 at 11:50 amThis sounds like something I could easily add to VASST Render Assistant. I’ve added it to my list of requested features. Let me see what I can do.
If there is anything else you need in any of our VASST products, just ask and we’ll see if it can be added.
