So, I make lyric videos and am constantly devising ways on how I can make them look better. Here’s a cool text effect that I see pop up from time to time. To see it without the buildup, skip to 0:24 in the video: https://youtu.be/nKOXHLp2Bpw

(I apologize in advance to anyone that finds this type of music to be unpleasant)

You see how the text pops in and kind of staggers a bit? I know this was probably made with AfterEffects, but is there any way to make this happen on Sony Vegas?

Unfortunately, it’s one of those videos that needs to be viewed on YouTube (to boost numbers, I presume). I’d go to the source, which you can get to by clicking her —- > CLICK ME!

    Hi Christian

What version of Vegas are you running ? Some features in Vegas are present or not depending on the versions. The example below comes from V14 (I still use some older version depending on my needs + I’m out in the field and using V14 on my laptop. V16 is on my desktop)

You can do something similar using Pro Titler and the Active Camera features available in V14. It does involve some tinkering and tweaking but you can get there.

That’s one way of doing it. Maybe somebody else knows of another way.

If you’re going to get really serious with titling, there are a few options out there. NewBlue is one of them. Some may even have the pre-packaged effects you are looking for.

    Cheers !

This is possible to do but it would not be easy. Titles and Text has an animation called dropping words that can handle the text animation. But the movment is the hard part. I did a test project. I took a big picture of the moon and parented 4 tracks all in 3D compositing mode. I put the picture in different angles and locations so you would have to spin the camera to see the others. Thats maybe part of the trick for the movement. You may need to use the parent motion in 3D compositing mode as well. The video bus track can give you the motion blur when the camera pans and rolls around. The fire I would just find a fire element somewhere and put it at the top probably with add compositing mode. There also the shake which I would add a shake effect to each track. I don’t think vegas comes with one though. I use hitfilm shake a lot, I think newblue has something called active camera that might do it as well, and im sure theres others unless vegas does have one that i”m not away of. I also notice a slight fish eye effect you might want to add maybe with sphereize. There may also be depth of field going on, but for that I think you would be completely SOL. Basically this is super hard to do, and even harder than that to make it look good. instead of the 3D compositing mode you may be able to substitute a very large picture you pan and zoom around.

Any thing is possible in Vegas, but you may have to do some stuff manually. Aftereffects comes with a bunch of pre-canned effects that makes things easy.

Here is one way you could replicate this effect, then apply that effect to other vegas titles. I am not a big fan of 3rd party titling addons to vegas, I always found these to add bugs to my timeline that slow renders and cause crashes during renders. So using things like photoshop or illustrator (insert your similar app here) to create your your graphic with transparent background. Then insert that on your time line and perform effects on that graphic.

    1. in some fashion grab clip of the video you like and place the clip on a timeline.

    2. insert a new timeline and place your graphic on the timeline, then fade the graphic to 50% or more. If your graphic has transparent background then fading may not be needed.

    3. Use pan crop to match move the motion.

    4. Use fades and other effects to match other elements of the clip.

    5. Save presets, then you can apply them to other other graphics you drop on the timeline. The Vegas Help menu can assist in creating an effect grouping.

    6. If your text needs to be animated, then create an animated text sequence, render it to video or an image sequence, then apply the motion effects.
