Any way to bring Hi8 to look reasonable?
Posted by Mike Hinkel on February 8, 2012 at 11:16 amI got a guy who wants me to put HI 8 tape to DVD. Would it be be possible or a waste of time.

The quality will be much better than VHS and people burn that to DVD all the time. -

February 8, 2012 at 3:42 pmIf you can borrow a Digital8 camera, you can use it to bring Hi8 into your PC as DV, directly. Assuming, of course, you still have Firewire around.
Assuming no damage (tapes of this type are often old enough to be losing it a bit), you can get within shouting distance of DV, probably better than many consumer DV camcorders… VHS-C or plain Video8 typically held up the consumer low-end in those days.

February 8, 2012 at 9:27 pmHe still has the HI8 camcorder and I have a Canopus AVDC 110 w/firewire that I used for transferring some super VHS awhile back. That didn’t come out too awful bad. I’ll have to look and see what he has. My only concern is for the way the tapes may have been stored and if they are extended play. He said there are a lot of glitches when played back. If I remember drop outs were common.
