I’ve got an ASUS P5ND2-SLI with an Intel D duo core 3ghz processor. I’ve got the Black Magic SP card and I’m running PP 2. I’m an overclocking novice and am wondering whether I’d benefit from it. Any thoughts? Thanks.

You may want to post that into an overclocking forum. I doubt anyone here give you advice that might cause you to fry a CPU 😉 The reason I tell you this, is because (when I was younger hmmm…) I actually fried one myself.

Unless you plan on leaving your machine inside a freezer, you’ll probably have to look at ways to diffuse the additional heat, and as far as video world goes, I’m not sure the work and research involved are worth the small benefits you will get in speed.

I also have fried a CPU. Overclocking creates an instable OS, the last thing one wants when working for a living with an app that pushes everything to the limit.

I, on the other hand, overclock my pc for years, 2-3 of them so far, and never really notice any problem with mine. (AMD chip with reliable motherboard.)

The Pentium D aren’t a good overclocking candidate, the Conroe Core 2 duo is much better, a E6600 usually 3ghz with no problems with decent cooling, some people* run them much higher but stability goes out the window.

    * not sure if some gamers are considered people any more. 🙂

It’s all about how much you are willing to spend on cooling… As far as premiere goes however, if you are already on a Dual Core, fast memory and high end GPU is really what money should be spent on. And as Blast said, if you are NOT on a Dual Core, then the improvement of 300 MHz really wont make any difference.

    Cheers,

    Vince
