I am planning on attending NAB this year for the first time. Does anyone have any reccomendations as to where to stay? Currently, I am looking at a BestWestern hotel that is right across from the expo center and costs only $90 a day.

I’ve never stayed at the Best Western in Las Vegas, so I don’t know. It’s not necessary to be close to the convention center because the NAB approved hotels all have shuttles and I understand the monorail is running as well.

Although, where ever you stay, you need to get your reservations as the good hotels fill up fast. Good and cheap, really fast.

I’ve got my team booked in the Flamingo. It’s further from the convention, but they have a shuttle, it’s on the monorail line and they have a nice buffet as well as a few good quick cafes. You might try calling your travel agent. Many people get really good fly-hotel packages that beat anything you could get directly.

Thanks Kathlyn. I just found and booked a hotel for $32 a night (without a casino). Surprsingly, the hotels without Casinos are much, much cheaper. Have to finalize the flight times (there are 14 flights from NYC each day. lol)

    See you all there!

The pleasure will be all mine 🙂

Now, I have to find people that are flying out from NYC on Sunday morning. If I can find 5 or so people, it won’t be such a boring flight after all.

I think Aharon is flying out Sunday morning. Serge and his wife and son may also be flying out that day. I’m not sure yet what their plans are. I’m sure there are many from NY that will be flying in on Sunday. Should be a fun trip.

And, of course, there’s the COW Leaders’ breakfast on Tuesday.

Can I ask where the hotel is? During a convention that is a very good rate and there may be a reason. I don’t think Motel 6 gets that low.

The reason I ask, is I think almost without exception, the hotels on Las Vegas Boulevard between the strip and downtown would go for that rate but they should pay you to stay there.

That said, downtown the Gold Spike and El Cortez and maybe others probably have under $50 rooms still and aren’t that bad. I’ve stayed in a top floor suite at the Gold Spike during NAB and it was perfectly acceptable (and I think under $40!).

If you’re not going to have a car, you need to make sure you’re either on a bus, shuttle or monorail line. Taxi’s are exorbitant and things will be too far to walk — unless, it’s right across the street.

There’s no real parking available at the convention center anyway, so if you have a car, you need to find a “parking spot” that’s near a shuttle or the monorail and then take the shuttle into the convention center. Allow plenty of time for all of this because traffic is really bad during “rush hours”

    Hi Aanarav,

Are you sure that it was $32 a night and not $32 an hour?

This is Las Vegas after all and many hotels without casinos are really — oh, doggone it, let’s just say they’ll get a married hound like me thrown into the doghouse.

I hear they’re less concerned about casinos and are sometimes part of the red light district — though I can’t say for sure as you know that dogs are color-blind, right?

    Yer pal,
