Any ideas out there as to how to desaturate all of the colors in footage, thereby making it black and white, while leaving one particular color, such as red, shining through? Like in Schindler’s List and Pleasantville. I have a scene where I want to black and white everything except a couple of strawberries in the foreground. Any ideas would be great thanks. I’m using FCP HD and have motion at my disposal. Thanks.

well depends on how the footage looks, but is it possible to work with layers?
As in duplicating the clip, make it black and white, use the color clip over and add a mask around everything but the strawberrys and make that transparent.

You can easily do that with motion, but it might be time consuming if you got a long clip.
Well, it’s how accurate you make the mask that’s consuming.

    chrisyocum,

What you’re describing is sometimes referred to as the “Pleasantville” effect. Here’s a link on how to do it:

Got this trick in my book as well. Comes with practice footage and step by step instructions.
