Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Any idea how this effect was done?

    Looks like stock video footage of whatever those plants are, probably taken from Artbeats or getty, then they added the little eye thing and then Shine on top to give it that shimering light.

    They also probably used a displacement map to accentuate the movement.

    I don’t know man, but I don’t see any reason why that isn’t 3D. In fact, the more I look at it the more it looks like 3D…

    These guys are good. They are the makers and designers of JK Rowling’s website (Harry Potter).

    As for the image, looks like 3D to me!

    They are definitely 3D images. The daisy and the water dahlia look far too symmetrical to be based on photos and the black-yellow ladybug just looks fake (it lacks the glossiness that’s very prominent on most sub-species). The header image on the start page is given away by the wrong shape of the drops. You can easily create those using metaball particles or displaced spheres in most 3D programs. The grass can be done using either special hair tools or a series of similarly displaced cylinders.

    Maya’s Paint Effects (the real PE, not the 2D AE plug in from ye olden times) can set this up quite easily and realistically, including the motion.
