    Hi all,

    Hoping to upgrade to a new interim system in the next couple of weeks that I hope to run for a few months until we go HD…

    Wondered if anyone knew of any glaring problems I might face using it mainly as an AE workstation (some Premiere/Audition/PS/Combustion work too)

    Stuff like PCI blackhole issues, hardware conflicts, software/hardware conflicts – plugins problems, etc? Cheers in advance guys: –

    Windows XP Pro 32 (SP2)
    Adobe Production Studio Premium (CS2 apps)
    additional AE7 plugs: Knoll LF Pro 2.5 / trapcode suite / Zaxwerks)
    Nucleo Pro
    Combustion v3

    My current config is in my sig below for reference.

    I see no glaring issues, but you might consider the AMD 4400+ instead of the 4200+ model. Most people haven’t noticed, but the 4400+ is a “sweet spot” in the X2 lineup because it has 1MB L2 cache whereas almost all of the others have 512k L2 until you get way higher in pricing.

    For anyone who doesn’t know what L2 cache does, it minimizes data bottlenecks at the processor. Data is passed from the processor to your RAM through the L2 cache, which is a special type of RAM (static RAM) that is much faster and more efficient than physical RAM (dynamic RAM) and acts as a conduit. The larger the L2 size, the smoother and faster data will flow. 512k L2 can handle the cache for a mere 128MB of physical RAM, so upping that wherever possible will increase performance more than a few extra Mhz in processor speed will.
