Working freelance and been doing a lot of tv work which involves bouncing out to tape, a lot, always seem to get confused… ! Anyone know of any good video tutorials that deal with this? Mostly using digibeta, black my tape, 09:59…, programme starts at 10.00… etc and always seem to get into a rut!

What kind of problems are you running into?
Edit to tape is not that tough and the interface is not that detailed.

You can’t go wrong with this great step-by-step. It’s also covered well in Lisa Brenneis’ Quick Start book, which you can always have with you.

This all assumes that your cards/decks are properly connected and set to remote, which can be a pain unless there’s someone in the conrtol room who can give you control, all the better if the decks are in your room.

If you’re tape is already blacked, the entire thing, then do an insert edit (the tutorial demonstrates an assemble edit.) It’s a cleaner edit. Though I suppose it doesn’t really matter.

Our house starts blacking at 00:58:30;00, then bars & tone, a slate, 2secs black and the program starts at 01:00:00;00

I’ve been snagged with Edit to Tape by my Sequence settings. Audio is tricky if you’re trying to lay off split audio from a stereo sequence.

Cool, thanks guys, that tutorial is just what i needed. Didn’t know about the sequence settings box, i was setting the timecode in the bins box just like I’d do in avid when doing an assembly edit. Most of the editors there use edit to tape in fcp but I’d imagine print to to video is much the same. Thanks again.
