any engineers in the house?
Hi, I work at a trailer house where we deal with a lot of HD footage that usually ends up going to film or even digitally projected. Basically, we were trying to figure out all the really intricate and headache-inducing differences between 720p 59.94, 1080i 59.94, and 1080p 23.98 and just how all that works and why we don’t fix this damn problem brought about by color TV over 50 years ago.
Anyway, now that my head is splitting from comparing the differences from what I can tell, we were wondering if there is some kind of source that can explain just what the heck all this stuff is about.

Buy this book: Digital Video and HDTV Algorithms and Interfaces (Morgan Kaufmann Series in Computer Graphics and Geometric Modeling) which is an excellent, if highly technical guide to all digital video, or ask us some specific questions and we’ll answer here as best as we can.
