I recently downloaded and installed the Normaity plugin for After Effects. I’ve been experimenting with outputting a scene’s normal maps from C4D R10. I’ve done it with the Multipass as a separate Tiff as well as RPF and RLA and then extracted the normals inside of AE. The plugin works well but I’ve encountered a lot of problems with C4D’s output.

First off the normals for the scene are totally different depending on which method I use. With a Tiff out of the multipass I get a standard looking blueish normal pass. The RLA and RPF outputs are more red or green. I am assuming that the different files are mapping the RGB to different XYZ values. Is there somewhere I can find a list of how the RGB values are mapped to the XYZ with the different file types?

Second. No matter which method I use for the output the normal maps are always aliased and very chunky. It’s not just the alpha edges but any internal edges such as text bevels that are fully aliased. Is this an option that I need to turn off somewhere?

    Thanks!
