UGGHHH THE WHITE SCREEN WHEN EXPORTING A QUICKTIME REF!

Have digitized 1920×1080 59.94 editied a prject and have exported it as a quicktime refrence file. Then I have imported it into Avid DVD to burn to bluray BUT i get the white screen. Makes no sense because I have made sure that my codecs are up to date in Avid and i’m on the most current version of quicktime and my ATI graphics card drivers have been updated. What else could it be???? Please help!

What’s your source footage, and did you check “Use Avid Codec” in your Quicktime Reference settings?

I am on Avid Xpress Pro 5.6 and quicktime 7.6.5 My source footage is 1080i digitized to the DNxHD codec. I have checked use avid codec before and it has looked like garbage. This cant be the best export, right?

There have been times when I have had issues with QT Reference. As Michael mentions, select “Use Avid Codec”. But this doesn’t always fix the problem.

If one clip in your sequence has different settings (title, graphic) then a QT Ref might have problems figuring out what format to use.

Try a mixdown – or even just a short test to see if that helps. If it’s a long program a video mixdown is a pain, but will certainly work to get the job out the door.

Does the Quicktime Reference play in Quicktime player? Open it in Quicktime and hit Ctrl+I if you’re on a PC, CMD+I on a Mac and tell us what codec is being used. Even if Quicktime can’t read the file (white screen), it will tell you the codec.

When you say you digitized to 1080i, was this through a MojoDX or NitrisDX? Or is this from P2 or XDCam? In your timeline, you can set your clips to show the resolution. Check that to see if you have any DVCProHD listed, and check what your media creation settings are set to render to.

You need to revert back to QT 7.1 this should solve your issue.

It’s listed in Avid’s version Matrix:

Thanks for all of your assistance.

    1. How can I find a version of QT 7.1 available for download?

    2. I digitized it from a firestore and it was recorded as a DVCProHD file and I digitized thru the capture tool as Avid’s HD codec. Its plays back fine inside of Xpress but not in a quicktime player after I export as a QT Ref.

    3. It says additional software may be required to playback this file when I launch it in a QT player and gives the white screen. But it says for format:

    16-bit Integer, Stereo,
    48.000 kHz
    dvh6 1920X1080

Double check your Quicktime Reference export settings.

If you have DVCProHD footage anywhere in your timeline you will have to export using the AvidDV codec (it will autodetect your source footage and export as AvidDV100).

Otherwise, mixdown to DNxHD and export a quicktime reference of that to get past this issue, until you can track down the cause of it.
