  • another shared storage for 2 Mac workgroup question :)

    Hi all

I’m based in the UK and we need shared storage for a 2 iMac workgroup that we can edit on in realtime. Our Mac support company has spec’ed a high performance NAS solution that looks like a 1GB Maxx Digital Final Share solution. So it uses a Mac Pro as the server, with an AIC 12 bay storage sub system attached.

This is a 12TB solution and will cost the best part of £8000, including installation.

Has anyone tried providing this type of shared storage with a system like this?

    https://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/storage-appliances/375013/synology-diskstation-ds1812

From the PC Pro tests it looks like the read/write performance is similar to what you’d get with a Final Share type solution. Our editors aren’t working with uncompressed video.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree, and is there another reason the Synology DiskStation DS1812+ wouldn’t work for us. A Mac pro with AIC sub system is obviously more powerful throughout.

    Thanks in advance
    Alastair

    Hi Alistair,

We have installed several shared storage solutions in the video market. I would suggest a product by GBLabs who specialise in central/ network attached video storage. If you want some more information please call me on Mob: 07970 921038 or office 01462 790 773

    Alastair,

Small Tree recently released a new system, TITANIUM4, that meets what you are looking for at a lower price. You can see info here: https://www.small-tree.com/Titanium4_8TB_p/t4-8.htm. A TITANIUM4 with 4 x 4TB drives would provide you with 12TB useable (RAID5).
