    Greetings All.

    I’m using SVpro12 with DVDApro6
I have HD 1920 x 1080 progressive footage at 59fps with square PAR.
My delivery will be on both DVD and Blu-ray.
Following instructions found on this forum the simple way is to render to BR, author in DVDA, create my BR then change settings in DVDA to DVD for my DVD’s.
When I do this I get black bars on both sides of the footage.
I have messed with changing the PAR but only with bad results.
    What am I missing here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!
    Tim

DVD Widescreen is not an even 16:9 like HD is. It’s a little wider which is why you see the black bars on the sides. They will hardly be noticeable on a TV where the edges are cut off anyway but if it bothers you, you will have to re-render in Vegas and tell Vegas to stretch the video (no not letterbox) and it will stretch the video slightly to eliminate the black bars. It doesn’t bother me and I’d rather not have my video stretched.

    Thank you so much John!
Once I created a test DVD it didn’t seem to be really noticeable.
Also thanks for all you do on and for this forum. I’ve really learned a lot from you.

Yea, that’s what I’ve found. It didn’t make sense to me to stretch the video because it actually softens it just a bit and it’s not worth it when you really can’t tell on a TV.

Thanks for the kind words Tim. It’s really appreciated. I enjoy helping others and I’m glad that I can.

I found this post because I was looking for a solution to exactly this problem. I still see problems with both solutions mentioned above (re-render with stretch or keep the bars)

  • Re-render with stretch requires rendering to dvd format directly right? This can (and in my case: does) mess up media generated in sony vegas pro itself.

I’ve reported this to Sony but they do not acknowledge the problem, and also asked for help on this forum (link) but unfortunately to no avail

  • not stretching the video will mess up the aspect ratio, right?

I’ve seen the opposite being said on this forum, but bear with me: suppose I film a perfect circle in full HD. Then I render to BluRay (full HD) and place it in DVD Architect. When creating a BluRay in DVDA the result will be a perfect circle again. When I create a DVD in DVDA the circle will be squeezed –> stretching would have filled the image again giving me the perfect circle back

  • Isn’t it easier to just change the width in DVDA to 704 instead of 720?
