Ok in Avid if you had a time code problem on tape you could either make the preroll less or more or digitize across timecode breaks. I see neither of these options anywhere, looks like your stuck with a 3 second preroll. Is it an option I missed?

    Where are you looking?

But preroll and TC issues are two different things. Preroll is a problem if you are logging a clip an want to start on frame 12 but the TC starts on frame 10. (can be changed to 1 sec in Device Control Preset Editor)

TC issues is if there are TC breaks in the Tape. There is a setting to tell FCP what to do on TC breaks, like make a new clip. Found under Final Cut Pro> User Prefs>General Tab, right side.

    Which is your problem?

You could also switch the deck control to “uncontrolled device”, just for this one part, roll the tape manually, and hit “capture now”. Still gets you the time code, but you don’t have to worry about the machine losing itself and forever seeking back and forth.
