    Hi everyone,

I just imported a spline from Illustrator and dropped it into a LatheNURBS. After a 360 rotate I rendered the result – which was supposed to look like one of those a russian dolls …and it did – except that when I rotated it around i spotted this annoying seam which corresponds with where the original spline profile is.

When I took this object into bodypaint the seam really began to get on my nerves. I tried redoing the spline in C4D but got exactly the same result.

Any ideas on how I get a completely smooth surface no matter where I am viewing from? Am i just going about this the wrong way?

thanks a lot for any assistance offered.

is the spline a 1/2 profile or the full profile? If it’s the full profile that would be the problem (360 is 180 too much and it’s overlapping itself) if it’s the 1/2 profile then I don’t know and would have to see the spline myself. Unless you have a small amount of Scaling or Movement in there…

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for this. It’s the movement. How dumb of me. Just before I dropped the spline on to the LN i had been fooling about with the parameters using another spline. Rather than start a fresh I just used the existing LN. There was a movement value of 1 – which was sufficient to create a ‘ghosted seam’ – but not enough to draw my attention to anything obvious in the geometry (i.e a visible edge/break).

Thanks again for this. Maybe I should get out a bit more often…

    All the best,

    Graham
