annoying issue
Posted by Buchiach on April 27, 2006 at 3:04 pmHi all
When editing in fcp and you want to move a clip, is there a way of moving this clip and moving all subsequent clips to the right (or left) in the timeline without selecting them all? This would save me muchous timeous!!

April 27, 2006 at 4:30 pmCheck the toolbar track select tools. There a tool for “all tracks from the click location to the end of the timeline” in each direction. After selecting, you can just drag the whole works to open some space.

April 27, 2006 at 4:30 pmThere is a tool in the toolbar for this. You have to click and hold the mouse on certain tools and other options will pop up.
You should read the section of the manual about the tools and the toolbar. They’re all very useful and the time it takes to learn them will save you a lot more time in the future.

April 27, 2006 at 5:04 pmClick on the clip you want to move, hold down the ‘alt’ key, drag the clip to its new position. You’ll see the cursor change shape (downwards bent arrow). Drop the clip in its new location and *presto* the other clips on timeline will move to accommodate. Works best with snapping on.
Very handy. Hope it helps you out.

April 27, 2006 at 6:33 pmOr you can hit the “T” key to cycle through all the available tools. The cursoe will change to reflect the current tool. One of them is a cursor with multiple arrows to the right, which selects all media to the end of the timeline.
