Announcing Logic X – its magical and magnetic
Not going to wait for this announcement. “Magic time lines in Logic. You don’t need no silly tracks, we have made it easy.” Apple showed its cards with Final Cut X, Quicktime X, Color, Shake, Soundtrack, LiveType…. Time to go to ProTools 9.
The major reason I stuck with Logic was its tight integration with FCP7. That’s no more. Anyone else thinking about this?

been a hardcore logic user ssince version 5 on the PC, and theyve been dumbing it doubt ever since version 7, but so far the changes have been for the better . Id hate to see them ruin aa ood thing because for midi Logic is where its at, Pro Tools cant touch it in that regard .

I love Pro Tools. It’s much better than Soundtrack (don’t know Logic).
But…
Pro Tools has got it’s fair share of problems too.Look up the complaints about Pro Tools:
features long overdue
RTAS and overall performance bad
Virtual instrument handling no good(not all that different from the bad press FCP7 had to suffer)
I love it – but I get a much better track count with garageband.

Heard Pro Tools 9 now runs 96 tracks. Folks on new i7 are getting 40 tracks real time no stutter. V9 first version without need for external hardware.

I’d say you get enough plain audio tracks with eq/compression/reverb for movie sound
(surround is very expensive though).
I’m more of a composer – I get a lot of cpu spikes with software instruments/guitar processing etc.
MIDI editing is good enough for me. -
Wow 40 tracks no stutter. My 144 track Fairlight Xynergi, with 256 mix tracks has EQ & dynamics on all channels & busses and VST plugins galore running on a single quad core WIN XP PC with 4 gig RAM that is four years old.
Oh and they have just added back MIDI tracks into Fairlight. They have their own proprietary processor card which does all the grunt so the CPU just does screens and VST plugins. Sure it costs a little more for the custom card and hardware controllers which are ergonomic and speed up the editing process to a level that mouse based editors can only dream of.
Don’t know Logic but for post work, I doubt it is in the same league as Pro Tools, let alone a system like Fairlight.
