Hey everyone, I’ve tried various softwares for sequencing my animation cells for traditional frame-by-frame animation (including Toon Boom, Anime Studio, and a few others), and none of them do exactly what I need to. All of my frames are drawn & saved as jpegs: all I need is a program (kinda like Windows Movie Maker) where I can import my pics & audio, and set them to a specified frames/second timeline. My audio files are lengthy (apparently, 3 minutes is too long for Toon Boom). Movie Maker would be perfect if it wasn’t for all the hang-ups and glitches.

Anyway, a friend is using Vegas Pro 9.0 with great success… unfortunately, it’s not in my budget. I wondered if Vegas Movie Studio will do what I need, based on the criteria listed above. Movie Studio is several hundred dollars cheaper & wanted some input before I order a copy. Again, My frames are just about ready to go & really won’t need all the extras that probably come with Pro (effects and whatnot).

    I appreciate any advice!

There are several different versions of Movie Studio.
Download the trial version of the cheapest one ($45 U.S.) and, if it does what you need, buy it.

The Movie Studio editions are fairly powerful for the money. I use Movie Studio Platinum 10 as it includes DVD authoring/burning and enough customisation for me.

Platinum 11 is probably the one to go for if you don’t need the advanced features of Pro (multicamera editing, scripting etc) but want plenty of options and flexibility for smaller projects.

Download the 30-day trial and see if it can do what you need. Try doing the same kind of things in Movie Studio that your friend’s doing with Pro.

Thanks for the reply, I saw a used version an Amazon for almost the same price, which is why I was hesitant to try the trial version… I’m leaning towards trying it though, thanks!

Cool, thanks for the info. Matt, I definitely don’t need all the extra features that come with the Pro version, so I’ll most likely give 11 a shot (I’ve found some used versions that will save me a few bucks).

I agree, if its basic animation needs you are looking for, the
studio versions will be ok for you. But for more advanced
features the Pro version would have them.

Thanks for the fast reply, I appreciate your input & expertise! Based on everyone’s advice, it looks like I’ll be using the studio version (as it is, even that has a lot of features I probably won’t end up using).

I got Movie Studio Platinum 10 on Amazon last year (well before version 11 came out), new boxed and well below the RRP. At the time, version 9 was still available but not much cheaper, and 10 was much better. I’d suggest to just get the current retail version 11 unless you can get a copy of 10 much cheaper. There’s not a huge lot between them in terms of features, especially if you don’t need HD or 3D.

Cool man, yeah I’ve been shopping around & have a few good options for version 10 so far (still have some looking to do). Thanks!
