    Hi Guys and Girls,

So, this is probably something very basic, but something I’ve never done before.
I’ve built a house in C4D and I’m setting up all the various furnishings for a game setup where things can be interacted with.
What I want to do is for the curtains set it up so I can control the opening and closing with a slider (for cut scenes).
Normally for my visuals I’d set up the curtain, give it a cloth tag, move the bindings to close it, and then ‘current state to object’ and I’m done. But I want to cache the animation and be able to use a slider in Xpresso to control the opening and closing.

Can this be done or am I just being thick?

    Cheers,

    Nick

Best way to do this is probably with a Morph Tag. Basically you’d save a copy of the open curtain and a copy with the closed curtain. Add a Character>Morph Tag to the closed curtain. The tag properties will ask what you want to morph and you should check only “points.” You can delete the Pose0 that the tag creates by default. Then drag your closed curtain mesh into the poses box and click “no” for a relative morph. Now, when you check the Animate box at the top of the dialogue you’ll have a slider to morph between the open and closed states.

That seems to have worked! Thanks ?
I didn’t know that you could drag meshes into the pose-morph tag. You sir, have blown my mind.

Ok, so thats worked to a degree, however, it doesn’t copy the animation, just makes it look too rigid.
is there a way of setting it up so it does a cached animation?

No, it’s not really an animation, although you could improve the result by adding additional in-between states to the morph tag.

Another thought: the best way to do this would probably be to save out a bunch of meshes as interim “poses” but instead of using the morph tag, put them in a Cloner. Set the clone mode to Blend and the number of clones to 1.

Then apply a Plain Effector with all parameters turned off. Use the “effect clone” slider to morph between the poses.

This sounds a bit more promising. I’ve not really had the chance to play with the MoGraph features…ever…so my knowledge in that particular area is low.
I’ll give it a go and report back!

Well apart from being rather long winded that worked perfectly! Thanks 🙂
