Hello everyone! I have a question, that I’m sure there is an easy answer for, but I can’t seem to figure it out. I’ve searched the forums and don’t really see an answer that would explain this.

I have an HD 1920 x 1080 animation/video composite that was rendered out by a friend on his Mac laptop (not as fast as my tower, specs below) as a Quicktime Animation codec. I understand that what this coded is and what it is for, a compressed file that has lossless quality. When I open it in FCP 6, Quicktime Pro, VLC, etc, the video plays for about 1-2 seconds, then the video freezes, but the timeline marker/button thing is still moving forward as if the video is still playing along.

I know that this codec is GIANT with high bitrates, but it doesn’t make sense to me why I can’t view it as it is. If it really is because my computer just isn’t fast enough, just tell me and end of story.
Can I assume that the video is all there and it’s perfectly fine?
Should I just dump this animation codec and use prores or something similar?

A little back story: I want to have the quicktimes for archival purposes, to have a lossless quality for the client to use at will and transcode to whatever they wish to use it for. I’m afraid to give them this quicktime and have them freak out when they try to view it months down the road because they can’t view it at real-time.

Please tell me the obvious so I can sleep at night 😉

    Thanks!
